Au quotidien, le soudage- montage est sollicité par une multitude de façons dans la plupart des sphères de notre environnement. Il y trouve son utilité autant dans les objets simplistes tels qu’un bureau ou une table mais il est aussi d’une importance capitale lors de la fabrication d’une automobile, ou d’un avion ou encore l’élaboration d’un pont. L’industrie de la soudure est un domaine très diversifié et muni de nombreuses possibilités de carrière.

Le programme de DEP en soudage-montage que nous vous offrons est constitué de 29 compétences, d’un volume horaire global de 1800 heures. Avec une alternance de matière théorique et de travaux pratiques, les étudiants pourront développer le savoirfaire du métier de soudeur-monteur afin d’en assumer les rôles, les fonctions ainsi que les tâches reliées à l’emploi. De ce fait, ils seront bien outillés pour progresser efficacement tout en s’assurant d’intégrer la sécurité en milieu de travail.

Le programme comprend les activités suivantes :

Durant la formation de soudage-montage l’élève sera amené à:

  • Réaliser des projets de montages industriels et de structures métalliques avec différents procédés de soudage : SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW
  • Réaliser des projets de montage et de soudage d’éléments de base, d’éléments de structure;
  • Lire des plans industriels et interpréter des devis ainsi que des procédures de soudage.

    • Le soudage- montage est un domaine d’expertise qui demande à la fois précision, constance et agilité. Les diplômés de cette discipline peuvent se spécialiser autant dans la construction et la réparation de navires comme dans la construction de pipelines et de charpentes structurelles, ou encore dans le soudage de précision en aérospatiale.

    * Ce programme de DEP est éligible au programme de l’aide financière aux études du gouvernement du Québec.

    Fonctions principales

    Les soudeurs et les opérateurs de machines à souder et à braser exercent une partie ou l’ensemble des fonctions suivantes :

    • lire et interpréter les plans ou les spécifications techniques de soudage;

    • utiliser des appareils manuels ou semi-automatiques, tels que des appareils;

    – de soudage à l’arc sous gaz avec électrode de tungstène (GTWA),
    – de soudage à l’arc sous gaz avec fil solide (GMWA),
    – de soudage à l’arc avec fil fourré (FCAW),
    – de soudage à l’arc au plasma (PAW),
    – de soudage à l’arc avec électrode enrobée (SMWA),
    – de soudage par résistance, de soudage à l’arc submergé (SAW)
    – de soudage oxyacétylénique (OAW), pour souder des pièces de métal.

    • utiliser des appareils coupe-flamme manuels ou semi-automatiques;

    • utiliser des appareils à souder et à braser;

    • utiliser des machines à former les métaux, telles que des presses à plier et des cisailles, de même que d’autres machines à redresser et à cintrer les métaux;

    • réparer les pièces usées de produits métalliques en y soudant des couches supplémentaires.

    Opérateurs de machines à souder et à braser:

    • utiliser des machines à souder à commandes réglables, comme des machines à souder par résistance par points, bout à bout et de lignes de suture, ou des machines de soudage à l’arc ou au gaz afin de fabriquer ou de réparer des éléments en métal;

    • utiliser des machines à souder et à braser à commandes réglables afin de lier des éléments de métal avec de la soudure ou de remplir les trous, les dentelures et les joints d’articles de métal.

    Admission Requirements for International Students


    To be eligible for admission for vocational studies leading to an DEP in Welding and Fitting, international students must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Comparative Evaluation : This is a document issued by Immigration, Diversity and Inclusion Québec. It indicates the level of education equivalent for studies conducted outside of Québec.     • OR

  • Diploma and Transcript: Certified copies of your diploma and transcript from the highest level of education is required. The copies must be translated into French or English. The assessment of the level of study will be completed by the school, the minimum level corresponding to the Quebec school system required is secondary 4;

    • OR

  • General Development Test (GDT) and specific prerequisites: You must present a document stating that you have successfully completed the TDG and specific prerequisites. For the Automobile Mechanics program, you must pass the prerequisites in language of instruction and in mathematics according to the codes shown in the following table:

  • Secondary School Equivalency Test (SSET): This evaluation is composed of seven equivalency exams at the Secondary 5 level. These multiple choice tests, assess your general knowledge in English (grammar), English (reading comprehension), mathematics, French (second language), social studies, economics and natural science. Once you’ve passed the evaluation, an Attestation of Equivalence of Secondary Studies (AESS) at the Secondary 5 level is issued. You must present this certificate to apply for an DEP.

    If you meet the requirements for admission, and you submit all required documents, your file can be assessed. Based on this assessment you will receive a letter of acceptance within 7 to 10 days.

    Admission Requirements for Local Students


    To be eligible for admission for vocational studies leading to a DEP in Welding and Fitting, students who are Canadian or permanent residents must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Persons holding a Secondary School Diploma or its recognized equivalent.

    • OR

  • Persons who are at least 16 years of age on September 30 of the school year in which their training is to begin and have earned the Secondary IV credits in language of instruction, second language and mathematics in the programs of study established by the Minister, or have been granted recognition of equivalent learning.

  • Persons who are at least 18 years of age upon entry into the program and have the following functional prerequisites: the successful completion of the General Development Test (see the following table), or recognition of equivalent learning:

    1. What are the program objectives?
    A graduate from the Welding and Fitting program will be qualified to operate equipment to weld, braze and solder. Our students are prepared for what the industry needs and which meets the welding standards. As well as:

  • Interpret plans, specifications and procedures
  • Prepare and weld steel, stainless steel and aluminum parts according to different processes, such as; SMAW, CTAW, GMAW, FCAW
  • Apply occupational health and safety rules
  • Control the quality of products

    • 2. What is the nature of work in this industry?
    This is a highly skilled trade, which involves the use of welding equipment in the heating, welding, cutting and brazing of ferrous and nonferrous metals. Welders work with their hands; building, repairing or performing installations.

    3. What are the main characteristics of a welder?
  • Dexterity and visual acuteness
  • Capacity to concentrate and able to execute precise/detailed work
  • Resistance to uncomfortable positions for long periods of time
  • Sufficient knowledge to interpret plans, specifications and procedures
  • Ease to work in the presence of loud noises, vibrations, smoke, dust and heat.

    The welding aspect is present in our every day life. It can find use in simple things such as a desk or a table and it also has a bigger importance when it comes to the industry of automobiles, planes, and construction of bridges. The welding industry is a diversified field and provides many career opportunities.

    The Welding and Fitting program consists of 29 competencies; a total of 1800 hours. The students will have to complete alternatively theoretical and practical work to develop the skills to assume the roles, functions, and tasks related to the job. Therefore, they will be well equipped to progress effectively while ensuring the integration of safety in the workplace.

    During the program, the student will:

  • Prepare and weld steel, stainless steel and aluminum parts according to different processes, such as; SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW;

  • Accomplish projects of Welding steel parts and producing basic assemblies;

  • Interpret plans, specifications and Welding procedures.

    • Welding is an area of expertise that requires both precision, consistency and agility. The new graduates can specialize both in the construction and repair of ships, in pipeline construction welding, structural construction welding, machinery and equipment repair welding or in the precision welding in aerospace.

    *This DEP program is eligible for the program of student financial assistance from the Government of Quebec.

    Welders perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications.

    • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment, using processes such as:

  • gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW),

  • gas metal arc welding (GMAW),

  • flux-cored arc welding (FCAW),

  • plasma arc welding (PAW),

  • shielded metal arc welding (SMAW),

  • oxy-acetylene welding (OAW),

  • resistance welding and submerged arc welding (SAW)

  • Operate manual or semi-automatic flame cutting equipment

  • Operate brazing and soldering equipment

  • Operate metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears and other metal straightening and bending machines

  • Repair worn parts of metal products by welding extra layers

    • Welding, brazing and soldering machine operators perform some or all the following duties:

  • Operate previously set up welding machines such as spot, butt and seam resistance or gas and arc welding machines to fabricate or repair metal parts.

  • Operate previously set up brazing or soldering machines to bond metal parts or to fill holes, indentations and seams of metal articles with solder.
