What's the best trade school in Montréal?

There isn't one universally 'best' trade school — the right fit depends on several factual criteria: whether you need a Ministère de l'Enseignement supérieur–recognized DEP credential, your trade and its post-DEP licensing pathway (CCQ for electricians, CCAQ for mechanics, CWB for welders), whether you need AFE financial aid (only DEP programs qualify), your preferred language of instruction, your schedule (day, evening, or accelerated), and access to hands-on workshop time. Aviron offers five Ministry-recognized DEP programs — Électricité, Mécanique automobile, Soudage-assemblage, Soutien informatique, Dessin industriel — plus in-house Courses for focused skill-building, with day and evening cohorts in both French and English.

Should I choose a private trade school or a CÉGEP?

Both lead to recognized credentials but they're structured differently. A CÉGEP DEC (Diplôme d'études collégiales) takes 2–3 years and combines vocational training with general academic credits — useful if you want the option to bridge into university later. A DEP (Diplôme d'études professionnelles), offered by private schools like Aviron, focuses purely on the trade and takes 12–24 months. If your goal is to enter the trade quickly with maximum workshop time and minimum general-education credits, a DEP program is faster. Both DECs and DEPs are AFE-eligible for Québec residents.

Are Aviron's programs recognized by the Québec Ministry?

Yes. Aviron Technique is permitted by the Ministère de l'Enseignement supérieur du Québec to issue five Ministry-recognized DEPs: Électricité (5295) / Electricity (5795), Mécanique automobile (5298) / Automobile Mechanics (5798), Soudage-assemblage (5382) / Welding-Assembly (5882), Soutien informatique (5385) / IT Support (5885), and Dessin industriel (5225) / Industrial Drafting (5725). Each DEP leads to a diploma awarded by the Minister. Program codes can be verified on Inforoute FPT (inforoutefpt.org).

What financial aid is available?

DEP programs at Aviron are eligible for Aide financière aux études (AFE) administered by the Ministère de l'Enseignement supérieur — both loans and bursaries are available subject to AFE eligibility criteria (family income, dependents, residency status). Aviron's financial-aid office assists applicants with the AFE application and explains the disbursement schedule. In-house Courses are not AFE-eligible but are partner-financed (instalment plans, financing options for qualifying students).
